No wonder it is so hard to get anything accomplished at the government level

pstern 05:30 on 27 March 2012 The big question of whether government has "the right" to tell American citizens that they must purchase some sort of health care will be decided within days by the Federal Supreme Court.   If it wasn't so serious it would be laughable. It reminds me of the Jonathan Swift novel, "Gulliver's Travels" where one of the 2 kingdoms cracks an egg shell from the top, while the other kingdom cracks it from the bottom. The problem is when each kingdom wants the other to do it the same way it does it and the 2 kingdoms actually go to war. This is pretty much how our own government does things. There is little common sense and virtually no freedom of self-determination.   Next week maybe we should also have the Supreme Court decide whether the government has the right to tell all of us to wear seatbelts, or that the State Board of Education has the right to tell all public schools how to educate our children? I'd like to have the Supreme Court consider whether the Internal Revenue Service is unconstitutional. I'd also like the Court to determine if property taxes are constitutional. Heck, we could take everything the government tells us we have to do at the Federal and State levels to the Supreme Court --- Oh! We are? What a waste of time and money! What a display of flexing political muscles during an election year! What a bunch of crap!!! GOVERNMENT MUST STAY OUT OF THE DAILY LIVES OF AMERICAN CITIZENS!!! Republicans and Democrats are a bunch of whiners! Why can't the 2 parties work together in the best interests of the American community? What happened to these 2 parties, that they have failed the American people? Meanwhile, government at the Federal and State levels continues to stick its big nose into every facet of our daily lives. It is endless and for the most part, it is illegal. Governor Rick Perry complains that the U.S. Congress and President Obama tells Texas what to do. He says that Washington needs to stay out of state affairs, but then Perry and the Texas Legislature think they have the right to tell Texans how to raise and educate their children, that they must pray in public places, that all young girls should have the HPV vaccine and the list of things we must do goes on and on. The bottom-line is that the rich and powerful think they have the right to tell the rest of us how to live. Well, the U.S. Constitution does NOT authorize the government to tell us how to live our lives, BUT that does NOT stop Federal and State government from trying to do just that. And if does NOT stop lawmakers from trying to amend Federal and State constitutions so that, even though these documents protect the people from over-zealous lawmakers and special interests from omnipotent rule, they will give themselves that right. What happened to our nation and what happened to our rights as American citizens? The wealthy and powerful oligarchy continues to gain power and the majority of Americans lose more control over their own government. Americans better take hold of their runaway government very soon, before there is none left. We already are seeing the shift to a police state, where freedoms and liberties have been removed.
