Helen Thomas proves wisdom does NOT come with age

Thomas tells Jews to take a hike, back to Europe

by Peter Stern

You "gotta" love senility and if not senility, then stupidity. This is a woman who has had a huge career as a news and political reporter and is currently employed as a columnist with Hearst news service.

From 1974 to 2000 the 89-year old Helen Thomas was the White House Bureau Chief for United Press International (UPI) and has visited many nations during her tenure. Here is the body of what Thomas stated publicly on May 27, 2010 outside of a White House Jewish heritage event when Rabbi David Nessenoff asked Thomas her opinion of Israel:

Rabbi Nessenoff: Any comments on Israel? We’re asking everybody today, any comments on Israel?

Helen Thomas: Tell 'em to get the hell out of Palestine.

Nessenoff: Oh. Any better comments on Israel?

Thomas: Remember, these people are occupied, and it’s their land. It’s not Germany, and it’s not Poland.

Nessenoff: So where should they go and what should they do?

Thomas: They should go home.

Nessenoff: Where’s their home?

Thomas: Poland. Germany.

Nessenoff: So you’re saying the Jews should go back to Poland and Germany?

Thomas: And America and everywhere else.

Later, Thomas issued a statement of regret on her personal web site, http://www.helenthomas.org/ . However, not only were Thomas' comments on Israel provocative and racist, they were historically inaccurate. Anyone who knows ancient history and/or the Old Testament knows that the Jewish People lived in the Middle East during Biblical times.

At the least Ms. Thomas should undergo a psychological evaluation and should be fired from her cushy position. There is no room for racism and stupidity at the top of the public media food chain. Many are calling for Hearst Publication to fire Ms. Thomas and for the President to dismiss her from any further White House reporting. Some wonder what Obama would have done had Ms. Thomas publicly proclaimed that "all Blacks should be returned to Africa, where they came from."
